Paul Nicklen is a professional photographer, who travels around the world, taking the most remarkable pictures of how the earth is changing due to global warming, and climate changing. He works for the National Geographic Magazine, and that's how I found out about him. I am really passionate about photography that involves nature and animals, and that is exactly what I admried so much about him. The range of photographs I got to see on the N.Geographic website were issued "Yukon: Canada's Wild West", and I saved it right away, to find more about later on.
After further research, I discovered that he is a much more adventurous man than what I thought. He travels among scientists, studying the melting ice, the effect it has on the living creatures nearby. He has specialized in working and photographing polar regions since 1995.
As his website says, he has been recently featured for the National Geographic 125 year celebration, for being a professional photographer, a risk-taker and explorer (he has worked with NG for 15 years).
Having all that said, his work is brilliant. You can see from the environment, conditions and climate that the photographs he takes are not easy at all, on the contrary, he might risk his life in order to accomplish it sometimes (as he once claimed himself...)
The variety of pictures I will share with you today are taken from all of his galleries, since I believe that you should be able to see his style, and way of working. Portraying only one gallery wouldn't be sufficient for this kind of artist.
He captures moments in nature, he captures animals. You can understand how passionate he is about his work, because of the process he goes through to accomplish it.
Paul Nicklen once said,
" After dozens of underwater encounters with one of Antarctica’s top predators I took the liberty of putting their range of behaviors into a box. On this clear, crisp morning, little did I know that my attitude would nearly cost me my life."
He has dedicated his life fully on photographing wild life, nature, in polar regions. He wants his images to look as clear and pure as possible, by portraying nature's true colors. He prefers not to use filters, so that it is as authentical as possible.
Below you have a range of photographs from his website, taken from all his galleries, some appearing the N.G.Magazine issues as well. Enjoy!
